Description
About MOLYKOTE® D-321 R Anti-Friction Coating
OVERVIEW:
MOLYKOTE® D-321 R is a high-performance, air-drying anti-friction coating (solid film lubricant) formulated for metal/metal combinations operating under high loads, low to medium speeds, and extreme temperature or chemically aggressive environments. It forms a dry, wear-resistant lubricating film that reduces friction and protects against wear, corrosion, and fretting. D-321 R is ideal for applications where traditional greases or oils are impractical or where a clean, dry surface is required.
KEY FEATURES:
Dry Lubrication
Forms a solid, low-friction lubricating film that resists attracting dust, dirt, and contaminants.
High Load-Carrying Capacity
Provides excellent wear protection and extreme-pressure (EP) performance for heavily loaded components.
Wide Operating Temperature Range
Performs effectively from approximately -180°C to +450°C, suitable for extreme temperature environments.
Corrosion Protection
Provides excellent corrosion protection, helping extend component life even in humid, chemically aggressive, or outdoor environments.
Air-Drying
No heat curing required — forms an effective lubricating film through air drying, simplifying application processes.
Excellent Adhesion
Adheres strongly to properly prepared metal surfaces, ensuring durable, long-lasting lubrication.
APPLICATIONS:
-
Sliding Guides and Tracks – Lubrication of guide rails, cams, and sliding bearings subjected to high loads and harsh environmental conditions.
-
Threaded Connections – Applied to bolts, screws, and fasteners to prevent seizure and facilitate easier disassembly after high-temperature service.
-
Bearings and Bushings – Dry lubrication of plain bearings and bushings where oil or grease is impractical.
-
Press-Fit Components – Prevents stick-slip and fretting corrosion in interference fits and precision assemblies.
-
Heavy-Duty Industrial and Aerospace Applications – Suitable for components subject to extreme temperatures, high loads, or chemically aggressive environments.
-
Maintenance of Components with Extended Periods of Inactivity – Provides long-term protection and ensures smooth operation upon reactivation.
PACKAGING:
MOLYKOTE® D-321 R Anti-Friction Coating is typically supplied in various packaging formats, such as 400ml aerosol spray cans, 1kg cans, and larger containers depending on regional availability and application needs.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE:
-
Surface Preparation: Clean and degrease surfaces thoroughly. For optimal adhesion, mechanically roughen surfaces (e.g., grit blasting).
-
Application: Apply the coating by spraying, brushing, or dipping to achieve a thin, uniform film.
-
Drying: Allow the coating to air dry completely. No heat curing is required; drying time depends on temperature, humidity, and ventilation.
-
Maintenance: Inspect periodically and reapply as needed depending on wear and operating conditions.
SAFETY AND HANDLING:
MOLYKOTE® D-321 R Anti-Friction Coating contains organic solvents and should be used in well-ventilated areas. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Use appropriate personal protective equipment such as gloves and goggles. Keep away from open flames and sources of ignition. Refer to the product’s Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for complete safety, handling, and disposal information.
